As you are likely aware, several videos were released last week related to criminal charges filed against David Daleiden by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for allegedly unlawfully recording individuals at a meeting of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), as well as in various restaurants. David’s criminal attorneys filed a motion arguing that concealing the identities of the alleged “victims” and the contents of the recordings at issue compromised David’s ability to defend against the charges. The criminal complaint identified the recorded persons only as "Does 1 through 14" in the complaint. The AG’s office later released the names of the “Does” pursuant to a request by criminal defense counsel. A few hours after the videos were released, YouTube took them down. The National Abortion Federation (NAF) reported the videos to Judge William H. Orrick, who is presiding over Planned Parenthood and NAF’s civil cases against David. NAF alleges that publication of the videos violates a civil court order and compromises the safety of the NAF members seen and heard in the videos. Judge Orrick ordered David’s criminal attorneys to remove the list of Doe names from their website. Judge Orrick then scheduled a hearing on June 14 to decide whether David and his criminal defense attorneys should be held in contempt for violating his order. Planned Parenthood claims that the videos are "intended to fuel attacks in Congress that would deny millions of women access to birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood health centers.” Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards made the same claims in 2015, shortly before the Senate voted on legislation to defund America’s largest abortion provider. The Washington Post evaluated allegations that defunding Planned Parenthood would result in women losing health care access and gave PP three “Pinocchios” for continuing to make the false claim that it provides mammograms and other cancer screenings. Three Pinocchios means the statement contains “significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions.” Please pray for David and for our Life Legal attorneys as the June 14th hearing approaches.
