Is there religious freedom in this country? Check out this letter (e-mail) I'd received from the Family Research Council - posted free of charge!

Is this too horrible to believe?

Stop Religious Persecution in the Government

Dear Ken,
Your religious freedom is dangling by a thread over a raging fire of the intolerance of radical government officials.
The facts are clear.
Just ask Pastor Steve Riggle. Houston's liberal activist mayor, who is an open lesbian, issued a subpoena demanding the pastor hand over church sermons and other private communications to city agents. His crime? Pastor Riggle dared to oppose the mayor's law ordering businesses, including those run by people of faith, to allow men to use women's bathrooms.
Just ask Kelvin Cochran. This decorated, firefighting veteran who served as chief of the Atlanta Fire Department was terminated. His crime? He wrote and published a book on godly living for a men's Bible study group at his church—with the permission of the mayor's office—that offended homosexual activists.
Or ask Captain Joseph Lawhorn. This Ranger chaplain was punished by his "politically correct" commander. His misdeed? He shared how his faith helped him deal with depression at a training session on suicide prevention! The Army said his lifesaving advice was too religious!
That's why Family Research Council has made saving religious freedom, the freedom to believe, a core priority.
Unlike any other organization in America, FRC has rallied the public and government leaders to help such persecuted American Christians.
But FRC cannot stand alone.
Will you stand with us? Will you send a gift to FRC today to boost our efforts to mobilize a vast multitude of Christians?
Religious freedom is much more than "freedom of worship" as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton would have you think. They see religion as a private act that should be confined within the four walls of your home or neighborhood church.
That's why I pray you will join with FRC today to awaken more Americans and urge more government leaders in Congress and elsewhere to preserve our freedom to believe as our nation's Founders envisioned.
Thankfully, FRC has a track record of defending religious liberty—and stopping the forward progress of the anti-faith radicals. For example:
  • When the Defense Department wanted to quietly keep Bibles out of the hands of wounded heroes in the Walter Reed Medical Center, FRC found out about it, contacted allies in Congress and helped stop the ban.
  • When the City of Houston targeted pastors such as Steve Riggle, FRC was there. So were thousands of other Christians who attended "I Stand Sunday." The result? The abuse of power of Houston's radical mayor became a national outrage and her plan to force a LGBT special rights ordinance on the city was exposed.
  • When the young wife of an American citizen was languishing in a Sudanese prison with her children for refusing to renounce her Christian faith, FRC did what the U.S. State Department was reluctant to do—helped secure her release.
These successes prove what can happen when we Christians refuse to remain silent.
But what if too many Christians do remain silent?
The enemies of faith are counting on this. The "sexual revolutionaries" redefining "freedom of religion" want to force people of faith underground so that nothing will stand in their way of fundamentally transforming America into a country we will not recognize.
So compromise is impossible. Christians didn't start the conflict, but if we simply try to sidestep it, I believe we will see the loss of our freedom to believe in this country and with that freedom, every other freedom that rests upon it.
By supporting FRC with your financial gifts and prayers, you will join us on the front lines in the battle to defend religious freedom.
If it were not for FRC, many Americans might never have heard about the religious persecution suffered by Pastor Riggle, Chief Cochran and Chaplain Lawhorn.
But it is your faithfulness, and God's blessing, that makes it all possible.
Which is why I'm turning to you again, as FRC intensifies its efforts to counter the attempt to redefine and destroy religious liberty for you and millions of Americans.
It is no longer an option (if it ever was one) to silently step aside and try to avoid the conflict. What keeps evil in check is good. It's time to exercise our freedoms so that we might keep our freedoms. It is time for Christians to take a stand.
Standing (Ephesians 6:13),

Tony Perkins
President
P.S. Thank you in advance for sending in your much-needed gift as we stand together with Pastor Riggle, Chief Cochran, Chaplain Lawhorn and all the others who are willing to put everything on the line to serve Christ. Their fortitude protects your freedom to believe, and mine. The least we can do is stand with them. Please let me hear from you.
