Dear sisters and brothers in Messiah,


     Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus - the name above all names - Messiah and King! I hope that you and the loved ones are in good health and are getting along! Good health is such a wonderful blessing from the good Lord, our Creator Lord! How is your spirit on this glorious day that the Lord has made? I am very thankful to our good Lord, for being able to get out of bed, and for the opportunity to write to you through this blog. His mercies are new every morning!!! I am writing to you to ask for your help. I am living in Sussex County and am looking for a place to worship the Lord at. I have come to be known by the Lord for about 19 years now, and am 58 years old (married multiple times prior to knowing the Lord - or should I say prior to being known by the Lord, with children and how many wives gone until heaven? - only the good Lord knows at this point!, and now living alone without any of the little loved ones). I am of Jewish heritage and consider myself to be a Jewish Christian, or a Jew. I don't know of any Messianic congregations around here, and I don't think it would be wise to travel great distances for worship. I have in the past have had problems with one leg (the left one), but more recently have had a problem with my left shoulder (I do worship and praise, and thank the good Lord each and every day). I am blessed each day, and am thankful to our Creator Lord for being able to get out of bed in the morning. Also, I am on a very tight budget. I don't have much in way of assets compared to rich people (or middle class people also), but compared to those living on less than $2 a day I probably have a lot! I have been greatly blessed by the good Lord, our Creator Lord, over my entire life (one time I was labeled autistic and couldn't speak [the good Lord, the Great Physician, healed me], one time I was living out on the streets, and one time I was deeply in debt [not that I believe in the "prosperity Gospel"] - to mention only three times that I was blessed by the Lord.  Please pray for me at this time! Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ Jesus. Love rejoices in the truth. Love does not envy. God is love. Love is not proud. Love does not delight in evil. Love is not easily angered. Love never fails! Love is the commandment from the beginning. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love is not self-seeking.


Please let me know if I could join you in the worship of our loving, gracious, merciful Father, and our Lord and Savior - for I worship the Holy One of Israel daily! For we struggle not against flesh and blood ...

Dear family, friends, and all others concerned about justice,

Greetings on this glorious day! I hope that you and the loved ones are in good health and are getting along. Good health is such a blessing from the good Lord, our Creator Lord! Good health is such a wonderful blessing from our Creator Lord!!! How is your spirit on this glorious day? Please remember that we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, with inalienable rights! Also, please remember that we humans are more than flesh and blood, and that we struggle against principalities, forces of darkness, and wickedness in high places (not flesh and blood). Some people like to talk about choices, but some things are not up to choosing. I didn't choose to be kidnapped, I didn't choose to be raped, or robbed, or harassed, or not given justice. Some things are not seen - there is a supernatural, and those that ignore it, or deny it, are losing out on Jesus' help, love, comfort, and hope! God is love, and love always protects.

Please don't over simplify, or avoid the tough tests, or trials - call on the name of Jesus!!! There is evil, and God is good!!! Love does not delight in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. It is our Heavenly Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom. Love always trusts. Love does not delight in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Jesus is here, always here, to comfort, to love, to give us wisdom, and to give us hope!!! Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ Jesus.

The Holy Scriptures tell us about our Creator Lord, and how we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and how we should value life, and how we should protect and support life, and how our Creator Lord loves us that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood and to die for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life!!! The Holy Scriptures are pure, perfect, powerful, profitable for doctrine, and cannot be broken!!! Our Creator Lord is love! Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy.

Please put all your hope in Jesus. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Thank you for all your help. Hope that you and the loved ones have a joyous and peaceful day. May the good Lord, our loving, gracious, merciful Father, bless you and the loved ones immensely!

     Please help protect life.  Please help support life!  Please take a strong pro-life stand!!!  Life is a gift from the Lord, and is precious!!!  Please take strong stand for life, and show that you value life!
     Abortion is the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!  Abortion is a moral, social, political, and an economic disaster here in the United States, and everywhere that it has been mandated!!!  Kudos to Ireland for not succumbing to the pro-abortionists.  Prior to 1973 here in the United States there were Laws on the books in many states, and prior to the early 1960's, all States had laws on the books banning abortion!!!  Below is a summary of great pro-life legislation from the States from the SUMMER 2013 RNC For Life Report No. 85 (article entitled "Great Pro-Life Legislation from the States").  According to Father Frank Pavone, of the Priests For Life, there are now 42 states that have passed, or have introduced, legislation that protects unborn children that are in the safest place on earth (or is it the safest place on earth?) - their mother's womb.  Now in 2013, two states (Arkansas, and North Dakota) have "Heartbeat Protection Laws" - laws that prohibit abortions on unborn children (the preborn children) that have a heartbeat!  Ten states have passed a Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Law that protects unborn children from being destroyed because scientists have stated that the unborn feel terrible pain when an abortion is performed on them at 20 weeks or longer.  Nine states require an ultrasound examination be performed on women prior to an abortion.  Texas requires abortionists to describe the physical appearance of the unborn child to his mother, even if the mother does not wish to view her child on the ultrasound screen.  Twenty-four states require a waiting period from the time a woman receives info. on abortion's risks  (as well as info. on alternatives to abortion) and the time she has the abortion.  Eight states passed laws requiring that physicians be physically present when women are given RU-486 (an abortifacient), the chemical compound used to destroy life in the womb.Nine states have passed legislation to regulate abortion clinics more tightly.  Five states have laws that mandate that women must be informed of the link between breast cancer and abortion.  Louisiana requires abortion clinics to post signs stating that women cannot be coerced into having abortions ( a high percentage of women/girls are coerced into having abortions by the dads or relatives of the dads).  States have bans on partial-birth abortions (this is where the abortionist would grab hold of the baby in the womb by his/her legs, and then partially deliver the child - legs first - until the child was delivered except for his/her head, and then the abortionist would insert something into the back of the baby's head and then suction the brains out of the baby - committing a partial-birth abortion.).    Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio outlawed the abortion of babies who can survive outside the womb.  Florida has a law that requires abortionists to provide medical care to babies that survive abortions!!!  Two states have outlawed sex-selection abortions (it's a wonder why all 50 states don't outlaw sex-selection abortions).  North Dakota also has banned the abortion of babies diagnosed with conditions like Down's Syndrome.      Let's continue to call on our wonderful, faithful, perfect Creator Lord's help to help end the destruction of life, and continue to pray for our leaders, and the leaders of the world to help equip them with what is needed to help end the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!
     Let's continue to call on our loving, gracious, merciful Creator Lord's help, and help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law (the law that would help pay for abortions with federal funds, and create health care rationing and near end of life(???) decision making (or just cutting off of medical help).
     Let's continue to pray for the women thinking about, or planning or scheduling to have an abortion, and for the abortionists (some abortionists can't get admitting privileges at  local hospitals).  Let's continue to help end governmental funding ( at all levels - federal, state and local) of groups, and organizations that perform abortions.
     Let's continue to ask our legislators, both State and Federal, to pass laws that will protect and support life.  Life is a gift from the Lord, and is precious.  Let's continue to search the Scriptures (God's Holy Word) and use the Word, to continue to live in the Spirit, and pray for revival for the United States.  Let's continue to pray that hearts, souls, minds, and bodies turn to Jesus - our Messiah and King!  Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Government shouldn't ration health care. Also, government shouldn't be allowed to pay for abortions. Rationing health care is not protecting life. Rationing health care is not supporting life! Also, abortion is the destruction of life - life given as a gift from the Lord, our Creator Lord! The Holy Scriptures tell us about our Creator Lord, and how we are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and how we should value life, and how we should protect and support life, and how our Creator Lord loves us so much that He sent His only Begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood and to die for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life! The House of Representatives voted to repeal the new Health Care Law, and the Senate has not chose the right path at this time (perhaps in the future they might!). Please help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law!

Greetings on this glorious day! I hope that you and the loved ones are in good health and are getting along. Good health is such a blessing from the good Lord, our Creator Lord! Good health is such a wonderful blessing from our Creator Lord!!! How is your spirit on this glorious day? Please remember that we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, with inalienable rights! Also, please remember that we humans are more than flesh and blood, and that we struggle against principalities, forces of darkness, and wickedness in high places (not flesh and blood). Some people like to talk about choices, but some things are not up to choosing. I didn't choose to be kidnapped, I didn't choose to be raped, or robbed, or harassed, or not given justice. Some things are not seen - there is a supernatural, and those that ignore it, or deny it, are losing out on Jesus' help, love, comfort, and hope! God is love, and love always protects.

Please don't over simplify, or avoid the tough tests, or trials - call on the name of Jesus!!! There is evil, and God is good!!! Love does not delight in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. It is our Heavenly Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom. Love always trusts. Love does not delight in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Jesus is here, always here, to comfort, to love, to give us wisdom, and to give us hope!!! Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ Jesus.

The Holy Scriptures tell us about our Creator Lord, and how we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and how we should value life, and how we should protect and support life, and how our Creator Lord loves us that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood and to die for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life!!! The Holy Scriptures are pure, perfect, powerful, profitable for doctrine, and cannot be broken!!! Our Creator Lord is love! Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy.

     Abortion is the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!  Abortion is a moral, social, political, and an economic disaster here in the United States, and everywhere that it has been mandated!!!  Kudos to Ireland for not succumbing to the pro-abortionists.  Prior to 1973 here in the United States there were Laws on the books in many states, and prior to the early 1960's, all States had laws on the books banning abortion!!!  Below is a summary of great pro-life legislation from the States from the SUMMER 2013 RNC For Life Report No. 85 (article entitled "Great Pro-Life Legislation from the States").  According to Father Frank Pavone, of the Priests For Life, there are now 42 states that have passed, or have introduced, legislation that protects unborn children that are in the safest place on earth (or is it the safest place on earth?) - their mother's womb.  Now in 2013, two states (Arkansas, and North Dakota) have "Heartbeat Protection Laws" - laws that prohibit abortions on unborn children (the preborn children) that have a heartbeat!  Ten states have passed a Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Law that protects unborn children from being destroyed because scientists have stated that the unborn feel terrible pain when an abortion is performed on them at 20 weeks or longer.  Nine states require an ultrasound examination be performed on women prior to an abortion.  Texas requires abortionists to describe the physical appearance of the unborn child to his mother, even if the mother does not wish to view her child on the ultrasound screen.  Twenty-four states require a waiting period from the time a woman receives info. on abortion's risks  (as well as info. on alternatives to abortion) and the time she has the abortion.  Eight states passed laws requiring that physicians be physically present when women are given RU-486 (an abortifacient), the chemical compound used to destroy life in the womb.Nine states have passed legislation to regulate abortion clinics more tightly.  Five states have laws that mandate that women must be informed of the link between breast cancer and abortion.  Louisiana requires abortion clinics to post signs stating that women cannot be coerced into having abortions ( a high percentage of women/girls are coerced into having abortions by the dads or relatives of the dads).  States have bans on partial-birth abortions (this is where the abortionist would grab hold of the baby in the womb by his/her legs, and then partially deliver the child - legs first - until the child was delivered except for his/her head, and then the abortionist would insert something into the back of the baby's head and then suction the brains out of the baby - committing a partial-birth abortion.).    Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio outlawed the abortion of babies who can survive outside the womb.  Florida has a law that requires abortionists to provide medical care to babies that survive abortions!!!  Two states have outlawed sex-selection abortions (it's a wonder why all 50 states don't outlaw sex-selection abortions).  North Dakota also has banned the abortion of babies diagnosed with conditions like Down's Syndrome.      Let's continue to call on our wonderful, faithful, perfect Creator Lord's help to help end the destruction of life, and continue to pray for our leaders, and the leaders of the world to help equip them with what is needed to help end the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!
     Let's continue to call on our loving, gracious, merciful Creator Lord's help, and help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law (the law that would help pay for abortions with federal funds, and create health care rationing and near end of life(???) decision making (or just cutting off of medical help).
     Let's continue to pray for the women thinking about, or planning or scheduling to have an abortion, and for the abortionists (some abortionists can't get admitting privileges at  local hospitals).  Let's continue to help end governmental funding ( at all levels - federal, state and local) of groups, and organizations that perform abortions.
     Let's continue to ask our legislators, both State and Federal, to pass laws that will protect and support life.  Life is a gift from the Lord, and is precious.  Let's continue to search the Scriptures (God's Holy Word) and use the Word, to continue to live in the Spirit, and pray for revival for the United States.  Let's continue to pray that hearts, souls, minds, and bodies turn to Jesus - our Messiah and King!  Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Government shouldn't ration health care. Also, government shouldn't be allowed to pay for abortions. Rationing health care is not protecting life. Rationing health care is not supporting life! Also, abortion is the destruction of life - life given as a gift from the Lord, our Creator Lord! The Holy Scriptures tell us about our Creator Lord, and how we are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and how we should value life, and how we should protect and support life, and how our Creator Lord loves us so much that He sent His only Begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood and to die for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life! The House of Representatives voted to repeal the new Health Care Law, and the Senate has not chose the right path at this time (perhaps in the future they might!). Please help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law!

     Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus - the name above all names - Messiah and King! I hope that you and the loved ones are in good health and are getting along! Good health is such a wonderful blessing from the good Lord, our Creator Lord! How is your spirit on this glorious day that the Lord has made? I am very thankful to our good Lord, for being able to get out of bed, and for the opportunity to write to you through this blog. His mercies are new every morning!!! I am writing to you to ask for your help. I am living in Sussex County and am looking for a place to worship the Lord at. I have come to be known by the Lord for about 19 years now, and am 58 years old (married multiple times prior to knowing the Lord - or should I say prior to being known by the Lord, with children and how many wives gone until heaven? - only the good Lord knows at this point!, and now living alone without any of the little loved ones). I am of Jewish heritage and consider myself to be a Jewish Christian, or a Jew. I don't know of any Messianic congregations around here, and I don't think it would be wise to travel great distances for worship. I have in the past have had problems with one leg (the left one), but more recently have had a problem with my left shoulder (I do worship and praise, and thank the good Lord each and every day). I am blessed each day, and am thankful to our Creator Lord for being able to get out of bed in the morning. Also, I am on a very tight budget. I don't have much in way of assets compared to rich people (or middle class people also), but compared to those living on less than $2 a day I probably have a lot! I have been greatly blessed by the good Lord, our Creator Lord, over my entire life (one time I was labeled autistic and couldn't speak [the good Lord, the Great Physician, healed me], one time I was living out on the streets, and one time I was deeply in debt [not that I believe in the "prosperity Gospel"] - to mention only three times that I was blessed by the Lord.  Please pray for me at this time! Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ Jesus. Love rejoices in the truth. Love does not envy. God is love. Love is not proud. Love does not delight in evil. Love is not easily angered. Love never fails! Love is the commandment from the beginning. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love is not self-seeking.

     Abortion is the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!  Abortion is a moral, social, political, and an economic disaster here in the United States, and everywhere that it has been mandated!!!  Kudos to Ireland for not succumbing to the pro-abortionists.  Prior to 1973 here in the United States there were Laws on the books in many states, and prior to the early 1960's, all States had laws on the books banning abortion!!!  Below is a summary of great pro-life legislation from the States from the SUMMER 2013 RNC For Life Report No. 85 (article entitled "Great Pro-Life Legislation from the States").  According to Father Frank Pavone, of the Priests For Life, there are now 42 states that have passed, or have introduced, legislation that protects unborn children that are in the safest place on earth (or is it the safest place on earth?) - their mother's womb.  Now in 2013, two states (Arkansas, and North Dakota) have "Heartbeat Protection Laws" - laws that prohibit abortions on unborn children (the preborn children) that have a heartbeat!  Ten states have passed a Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Law that protects unborn children from being destroyed because scientists have stated that the unborn feel terrible pain when an abortion is performed on them at 20 weeks or longer.  Nine states require an ultrasound examination be performed on women prior to an abortion.  Texas requires abortionists to describe the physical appearance of the unborn child to his mother, even if the mother does not wish to view her child on the ultrasound screen.  Twenty-four states require a waiting period from the time a woman receives info. on abortion's risks  (as well as info. on alternatives to abortion) and the time she has the abortion.  Eight states passed laws requiring that physicians be physically present when women are given RU-486 (an abortifacient), the chemical compound used to destroy life in the womb.Nine states have passed legislation to regulate abortion clinics more tightly.  Five states have laws that mandate that women must be informed of the link between breast cancer and abortion.  Louisiana requires abortion clinics to post signs stating that women cannot be coerced into having abortions ( a high percentage of women/girls are coerced into having abortions by the dads or relatives of the dads).  States have bans on partial-birth abortions (this is where the abortionist would grab hold of the baby in the womb by his/her legs, and then partially deliver the child - legs first - until the child was delivered except for his/her head, and then the abortionist would insert something into the back of the baby's head and then suction the brains out of the baby - committing a partial-birth abortion.).    Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio outlawed the abortion of babies who can survive outside the womb.  Florida has a law that requires abortionists to provide medical care to babies that survive abortions!!!  Two states have outlawed sex-selection abortions (it's a wonder why all 50 states don't outlaw sex-selection abortions).  North Dakota also has banned the abortion of babies diagnosed with conditions like Down's Syndrome.      Let's continue to call on our wonderful, faithful, perfect Creator Lord's help to help end the destruction of life, and continue to pray for our leaders, and the leaders of the world to help equip them with what is needed to help end the greatest human rights abuse going on throughout the world today!!!
     Let's continue to call on our loving, gracious, merciful Creator Lord's help, and help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law (the law that would help pay for abortions with federal funds, and create health care rationing and near end of life(???) decision making (or just cutting off of medical help).
     Let's continue to pray for the women thinking about, or planning or scheduling to have an abortion, and for the abortionists (some abortionists can't get admitting privileges at  local hospitals).  Let's continue to help end governmental funding ( at all levels - federal, state and local) of groups, and organizations that perform abortions.
     Let's continue to ask our legislators, both State and Federal, to pass laws that will protect and support life.  Life is a gift from the Lord, and is precious.  Let's continue to search the Scriptures (God's Holy Word) and use the Word, to continue to live in the Spirit, and pray for revival for the United States.  Let's continue to pray that hearts, souls, minds, and bodies turn to Jesus - our Messiah and King!  Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
     God's Holy Word, the Scriptures, tell us about out Creator Lord, and how we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and that we are to value life, and we should protect and support life, and that our Creator Lord loves us so much that he sent His only Begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood, and to die, for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life!

Dear family, and friends, and all others concerned,

Greetings on this glorious day that the Lord has made! I hope that you and the loved ones are in good health and are getting along. Good health is such a wonderful blessing from the good Lord, our Creator Lord! How is your spirit on this glorious day? Please remember that we humans are more than flesh and blood. Please remember that we humans are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, with inalienable rights! Let's call on our Creator Lord, our loving, gracious, merciful Father and ask for His help at this time, and in the future! Let's try to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law. It's a shame that many don't know what's in the new law (it's over 1,000 pages long!), and it's also a shame that people don't want to change, or do away with, all the problems in the new law (and to say that there aren't any problems in the new law is like saying that there aren't any problems here in the United States!).

Government shouldn't ration health care. Also, government shouldn't be allowed to pay for abortions. Rationing health care is not protecting life. Rationing health care is not supporting life! Also, abortion is the destruction of life - life given as a gift from the Lord, our Creator Lord! The Holy Scriptures tell us about our Creator Lord, and how we are created by our Creator Lord, in His image, and how we should value life, and how we should protect and support life, and how our Creator Lord loves us so much that He sent His only Begotten Son Jesus into this world to shed His blood and to die for us sinners, so that we might have eternal life! The Holy Scriptures are pure, perfect, powerful, profitable for doctrine and teaching, and cannot be broken!  Our Creator Lord is love!  Love always hopes.  Love always protects.  Love always trusts.  Love does not delight in evil.  Love is the commandment from the beginning.

The House of Representatives voted to repeal the new Health Care Law, and the Senate has not chose the right path at this time (perhaps in the future they might!). Please help to repeal, or change all the problems with, the new Health Care Law!

Dystopia:  the truth behind the fiction

The word dystopia refers to an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives.  Hollywood has adapted a number of popular dystopian novels for the big screen, showing spellbinding visions of a future that is downright horrifying.

     In a post-apocalyptic North America known as Panem, the Hunger Games trilogy introduces us too a world of immense savagery where selected children are forced into an annual gladiator-style fight to the death.

     The movie Divergent portrays a futuristic Chicago landscape, dreary and isolated from the rest of the world.  People are cruelly divided into cult-like factions based upon uniquely dominant character traits they strangely possess, such as "dauntless" or "erudite."

     The popularity of books and movies like these raises interesting questions for followers of Jesus who wish to make Christ known.  Why are people drawn to such dark visions of the future?  Could it be that a gnawing acknowledgment of the gritty truth about human nature lies behind these fictional stories?

     The evils of these dystopian societies are actually more in line with how the Bible describes the real world than many people would care to know.  Most moderns would admit that we face enormous problems in this world, but their hope is that, through human effort, we can make things progressively better.  Humanists have faith that science will ultimately bring this about.  Others put their faith in politics.  Progressives insist that government is the means to improve our society, while Libertarians believe that will only happen if government leaves us all alone and the free market reigns supreme.

     In Jewish parlance, this goal of building a better world is known as Tikkun Olam, the healing or repair of the world.  The ancient prayer known as the Aleinu (meaning, it is our duty) acknowledges that this can only occur when God's sovereign rule is established in the earth.  Yet today the focus of Tikkun Olam seems to be what we humans can bring about through our own efforts.  Many Christians have adopted a similar view.

     I recently attended a conference of Christian leaders focused on "taking action to advance the common good."  The conference emphasized working to shape our culture in order to accomplish transformation.  This common worldview is based on a utopian aspiration, the hope that our efforts can bring heaven to earth.

     It is right to do the good works that God asks us to do, but it is also right to recognize the truth of the worldview the Bible presents; i.e., things are bad and they will continue to get worse.  Rather than expecting to significantly shape our culture, we need to be "counter cultural" in the best sense of the word.

     Perhaps stories like Hunger Games and Divergent are popular simply because they seem to comport with the direction we all intuitively know we are heading; dystopian stories vividly depict an awful truth that people just can't look away from.  At the same time, these stories portray acts of heroism that are definitely counter cultural ... and offer the hope of good triumphing over evil after all.  This can lead to some great discussions.  But there's one big challenge.

     Most people don't want to acknowledge that the very frightening possibilities suggested by these stories do not stem from some outside disruptive force, but from the tragic tendencies of the human heart.

     If we understand certain unspoken fears that people identify with through fiction, we can show they are based on reality, connect them to biblical truth and finally point people to a hope that lies beyond any human ability to achieve.

     I see four dark mega-trends in society that clearly line up with biblical descriptions about this world's future - characteristics that are easily seen in today's culture.  They are:

*  cynicism (2 Peter 3:3-4

*  narcissism (2 Timothy 3:1-5_

*  relativism (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

*  cataclysm (Matthew 24:3-44)

     Read these four Scripture passages and see if you don't agree that his view of our planet's future is already here to some extent, and that its total fulfillment is fast coming upon us.

     Peter's prediction of scoffing, perhaps better translated "mocking", typifies a cynical attitude toward truth and, in particular, spiritual truth.  Scoffing is an outpouring of scorn and derision, and is often used to cover up an underlying sense of shame.  It is intensified to the extent that people try to distract attention from their own bad behaviors.

     Our culture has become toxic with cynicism toward all who hold up a standard of truth, whether for right and wrong, for marriage and morality, honesty and fairness, or a whole host of other ethical claims.

     Paul likewise predicts a world disintegrating under the weight of narcissism.  All the characteristics Paul talks about in describing "lovers of themselves" flow out of sinful self-absorption as people set standards based on, "How does this affect me?" rather than an external, objective measurement of good or evil.

     James Davison Hunter in his book, The Death of Character says, "We say we want a renewal of character in our day, but we don't really know what we ask for.  To have a renewal of character is to have a renewal of a credal order that constrains, limits, binds, obligates and compels.  This price is too high for us to pay.  We want character, but without unyielding conviction.  We want strong morality but without the emotional burden of guilt and shame.  We want virtue, but without particular moral justifications that invariably offend.  We want good without having to name evil.  We want decency without the authority to insist upon it.  We want moral community without any limitations to personal freedom.  In short, we want what we cannot possibly have on the terms that we want it."

     Likewise Paul predicts a diminution of truth in a trend toward relativism; people's desires will decide what they believe rather than allowing what they believe to shape their desires.  As in, "Whatever appeals to me must be true (for me)."  Then comes the quest to collect teachers who say just what people want to hear.  How many of us know people, even believers, who have that cafeteria-style approach to truth?

     Finally, anyone who thinks things will become progressively better in our world either hasn't heard or hasn't believed what Jesus said in the Olivet discourse.  In a word, it is cataclysm, which
Webster defines as "a flood, a deluge, any violent change involving sudden and extensive alterations, an upheaval, a social or political one."

     Jesus says to expect a geopolitical, religious, economical, ecological, sociological and finally, astronomical cataclysm.  So what is a hopeful Christian to do?

     Even as we show what the Bible says about our corrupt and corrupting world, we can confidently share the hope the Scriptures also give.  The "dystopianesque" future that faces us will yield to the rule of Messiah Jesus.  He will right all wrongs and truly heal the world by His divine power.

     Dystopian stories can provide opportunities to discuss the bad news that always precedes the good news.  Even as the real world around us disintegrates, if we believe and trust in Jesus, He promises to be with us and strengthen us.  He will deliver us and bring us into a bright and beautiful future, where the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2 :14).
