CRAZY CALIFORNIA proposes INSANE INFANTICIDE bill . . . ! Just when we thought California legislators couldn’t get any more wicked, they introduce a piece of legislation that is not only the most expansive abortion bill in the state’s history, but also actually legalizes infanticide. The bill, AB 2223, provides for an absolute prohibition on civil and criminal penalties for any “actual, potential, or alleged pregnancy outcome.” What kind of possible pregnancy outcomes are they talking about here? According to AB 2223, a “pregnancy outcome” includes miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, or perinatal death. The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics defines perinatal death as either fetal death (at least 20 weeks of gestation) and early infant (neonatal) death up to 28 days after birth. Do California lawmakers actually want to remove all penalties for women who kill their newborn babies? Yes, and there’s more. AB 2223 also prohibits any civil and criminal penalties for anyone who aids or assists a woman in killing her baby, in or out of the womb. And if law enforcement or a prosecutor tries to hold someone accountable for the death or even cold-blooded murder of an infant, the new bill creates a private right of action that allows her to sue that state actor for money damages. But that is not all. AB 2223 expressly authorizes “self-managed” abortions, which are abortions that are committed outside of a medical setting. The bill does not limit self-managed killing to chemical abortion, but removes all penalties for any kind of self-managed abortion at any stage of pregnancy – and through the baby’s first month of life. Remember, this is from the people who 50 years ago screamed that abortion had to be legalized to prevent women from dying in “back-alley abortions.” Tragically, even some alleged pro-lifers bought into that argument and have been trying to make abortion safe for women ever since. Life Legal believes the only way to protect women and babies from abortion is to prohibit abortion altogether. We also condemn the use of AB 2223’s euphemisms like “personal reproductive decisions” and “reproductive justice” to justify and encourage the killing of babies in and outside the womb.
